Selective oxidation of methane to methanol catalyzed, with C-H activation, by homogeneous, cationic gold.

چکیده
Some of the most efficient homogeneous catalysts for the lowtemperature, selective oxidation of methane to functionalized products employ a mechanism involving C H activation with an electrophilic substitution mechanism. Several such systems have been reported based on the cations Hg, Pd, and Pt. These catalyst systems typically operate by two general steps that involve: A) C H activation by coordination of the methane to the inner sphere of the catalyst (E) followed by cleavage of the C Hbond by overall electrophilic substitution to generate E CH3 intermediates, and B) oxidative functionalization involving redox reactions of E CH3 to generate the desired oxidized product CH3X. Copper nanoparticles were fabricated by electro-reduction of CuSO4solution in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) cationic surfactant as an additive through potentiostatic method. The prepared copper nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical methods. The SEM images reveal that the nanoparticles with diameters at about 70 n...
متن کاملAqueous Au-Pd colloids catalyze selective CH4 oxidation to CH3OH with O2 under mild conditions.
The selective oxidation of methane, the primary component of natural gas, remains an important challenge in catalysis. We used colloidal gold-palladium nanoparticles, rather than the same nanoparticles supported on titanium oxide, to oxidize methane to methanol with high selectivity (92%) in aqueous solution at mild temperatures. Then, using isotopically labeled oxygen (O2) as an oxidant in the...
متن کاملSelective Oxidation of Methane to Methanol at Low Temperatures with Molecular Inspired Solid Catalysts
Methane is an abundant material found world-wide, particularly in form of natural gas. The ability to directly convert methane to methanol in economically satisfactory yields is an important goal of the oil and gas industry. Current technologies or catalytic systems for a direct utilization suffer from low selectivities owing to overoxidation to carbon dioxide. These systems typically involve h...
متن کاملKinetic Study, Modeling and Simulation of Homogeneous Rhodium-Catalyzed Methanol arbonylation to Acetic Acid
Thermodynamic restrictions and simultaneous effects of operational conditions on the homogeneous rhodium-catalyzed carbonylation of methanol are studied in this line of research. It is shown that the general NRTL-Virial model can be appropriated to study thermodynamics of the carbonylation. It is obtained that the reaction is kinetically and thermodynamically reasonable at temperatures abov...
